We want to understand the characteristics of justice involved girls in the juvenile justice system before we can look at how to intervene in response to their needs. Using the risk- needs- responsivity framework, we dissect the demographics and characteristics of 365 girls adjudicated in Harris County, Texas by the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department between 2017-2019. This univariate and bivariate analysis will provide foundational information to addressing female justice involvement more accurately. This will be my first 2 dissertation papers out of 3 for my final dissertation. It is my privilege to work with Dr Danielle Parrish on this work. My 3rd dissertation paper will be a qualitative study understanding the phenomenon of desistance among justice involved girls and the internal and external factors that affected the way they ceased offending.
Who are these girls?
