Violent crime index for juvenile justice involved females is on the rise.
In 2016, violent offenses such as aggravated assault accounted for 29%, simple assault (37%), robbery (11%) and murder and nonnegligent manslaughter (9%) (Puzzanchera, 2018). The rising trend is disconcerting and the long- term outcomes for the JJIFs could be dismal. To prevent violent and non- violent offending that is escalating among this population, it is critical to surveil JJIFs to develop evidence-based, gender-specific programming that can augment desistance (i.e., cessation from crime) and positively alter their reentry trajectories. This research focuses on the mediating variable of temperance on the relationship between the exposure to violence and level of aggressive offending among females. This article is underway!
